RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NOVERMBER 2006 AS
CAREGIVER APPRECIATION MONTH IN RENSSELAER COUNTY
WHEREAS, The health, safety, and well-being of it residents has and will continue to be the primary focus of Rensselaer County government; and
WHEREAS, Rensselaer County seeks to be attentive to the many challenges facing family caregivers by recognizing and addressing family caregiving issues and supporting community programs that help to sustain family caregivers; and
WHEREAS, The continuing efforts of the more than 25 million family caregivers in this country, who provide $257 billion in unpaid supportive services, may well be jeopardized without appropriate support and recognition of those efforts; and
WHEREAS, the 2000 census data shows Rensselaer County with 17 percent of its total population over the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, Rensselaer County has shown the desire to improve the conditions under which families care for their friends and loved ones and thus delay their being placed in a nursing facility; and
WHEREAS, November is nationally recognized as Family Caregiver Appreciation Month and as a time to thank, support, educate, and celebrate the more than 50 million family caregivers across the country; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Rensselaer County Legislature recognizes the month of November 2006 as Caregiver Appreciation Month and as a time for thanking and supporting those who informally care for family or friends, helping enhance the quality of life for their loved ones at home, and in the process, reducing the community's tax burden; and be it further resolved
RESOLVED, That all relevant Rensselaer County agencies are hereby requested to encourage any such activity or recognition that will help give thanks and show appreciation to all Rensselaer County caregivers; and be it further
RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to
Joseph Cybulski, Commissioner, Rensselaer County Aging Department, John Beaudoin, Commissioner, Rensselaer County Social Services, and Renee Benson, Executive Director, Catholic Charities Caregiver Support Services.
